OK, maybe this is old news by now but the first private spacecraft made orbit the other day. I'm (obviously) a big proponent of private spaceflight and look forward to going into space.
Now if only we could get that Space Elevator thing going.
(I just want to add: when I get depressed about the state of our world, I like to spend 5 minutes reading about the space elevator. It's just so unbelievably cool.)

OH MY GOD SPACE IS SO AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeletesorry, i'm a big nerd and still haven't gotten over the fact that Santa never granted my one annual request of a trip to Space Camp
Your preaching to the choir on this one. I am all about private space travel and a space elevator. The guy who organized the X Prize is planning to claim the moon as soon as he can get enough resources up their set up a settlement. I plan to buy one of his subdivisions.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I recognize this conversation is in many ways absurd, but my friends all think I'm crazy because I want to get space colonized as soon as possible to ensure the survival of our species. (Honestly, I think they're crazy for not instantly agreeing ...)
ReplyDeleteyou're so right! everyone is so up in arms about the "peril" this planet is in, but they all admit that it's really more about "our children's future" (or whatever) than the environment itself. If a habitable world for future generations isn't a guarantee (and outside of environmental concerns, in this age of nuclear weapons, how could it be?), we should be looking for other options. Keeping all of our person-eggs in one fragile basket doesn't make a lot of sense.
ReplyDeletealso space is awesome.
I like the person-eggs line, that was great. But not as great as space.
