Quick Thought on NY-Sen

Hillary's Senate seat is also open to a gubernatorial appointment. While speculation flies fast that Governor Patterson is looking to Caroline Kennedy, I for one do not buy this at all. NY has plenty of good candidates and she just doesn't seem like the Senate type. Notably, Patterson has more or less said he doesn't want to appoint a white male from NYC ... Carolyn Maloney has been endorsed by "Women's groups" according to electoral-vote.com. Also there's Andrew Cuomo, but this guy on NPR just said Patterson doesn't want to give him the seat (competition for him?)

  1. The impression I got was that Patterson may want to appoint Cuomo so that Cuomo will not be competition when Patterson faces a (re)election. That said, if Patterson is seeking that Senate seat in the future he may want to appoint a placeholder to make sure there is not a Democratic incumbent to defeat in a primary. I think I have my details correct. Who knew that the statistically tied Senate race in Minnesota would be the third most talked about of Senate seats. Crazy country we live in.

  2. Thanks, I'm admittedly not tuned into the details of the Patterson vs. Cuomo possibilities.

  3. I don't know a lot about this, but I worked for Andrew last summer (not this past, summer of '07) and he was clearly very politically ambitious. I think he'll probably run for governor barring something unexpected (like, maybe, being offered the Senate seat).
