And here is the hilariously useless and patriotic map from AccuWeather:

In the end it seems as if weather won't be too much of a factor in terms of its impact on voter turnout. On the east coast there is not too much in the way of precipitation, but perhaps the Georgia senate race and the southernmost part of North Carolina will see unexpected voter patterns. Assuming Chris' predictions come true (especially Ohio) the weather on the west coast may be irrelevant, with its impact overwhelmed by the impact of the returns from the east coast.
So as it turns out this post says nothing. At least we now know that Earth has one more layer than previously known: a gigantic American flag that stretches north to south from Canada to Mexico and east to west from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Finally we know the true boundaries of manifest destiny. Thank you, AccuWeather.
Yeah, I'm actually a little disappointed the weather won't be more interesting; I was hoping to see how it would affect turnout.
ReplyDeleteSee, Nate says that historically bad weather favors Republicans. I don't necessarily have any beef with that, but this year I feel as though it would sharply help Democrats. I mean, all else equal, you think a guy voting for McCain is as likely to go through hell or high water to do so as a guy voting for Obama?
What actually might be interesting would be if rain depressed voter turnout in North Florida (which, make no mistake, is the south) but not in South Florida (i.e., Miami).
Maybe also some slight effects in North Dakota, and possible Denver and Fort Collins in Colorado, if that storm moves over just a bit.
Nice post, Bart.
Also, while that AccuWeather map is hilarious, it's not even close to as bad as it gets. I was trying to watch Campbell Brown the other night (my first foray into TV news in many years and decidedly a mistake - I'll post more this later) and literally couldn't make out the chart being displayed because so much crap behind it was MOVING: The American flag, waving! The NBC logo, spinning sickeningly! This crazy "decide 2008" logo swooshing across frame!
ReplyDeleteOne thing's for sure - it's a good time of year to be a graphic designer.
