Hmm, not sure what to make of it. That's kinda badass that he can handle that kind of tiger, but in terms of the relevance of the story, I'm not sure I'm catching what you see in it.
I have pulled out 6 sentences from this article that tugged at the strings of discomfort, for me.
1. Putin, taking a break from lambasting the West over Georgia, apparently saved the crew while on a trip to a national park to see how researchers monitor the tigers in the wild. -apparently saved the crew. this is not definite? who are the sources from this incident? were they there? are you sure Putin did shoot the tiger because he wanted to shoot something- since he is so macho?
2. Just as Putin was arriving with a group of wildlife specialists to see a trapped Amur tiger, it escaped and ran towards a nearby camera crew, the country's main television station said. -the country's main television station. for me, enough said. who controls the station??
3. The 55-year-old former KGB spy, who cultivated a macho image during his eight years as the Kremlin chief, was shown striding through the taiga in camouflage and desert boots before grappling with the feline foe. -how is this actually relevant to the article and not just touting Putin as a tough macho (who is, apparently, on a porn shoot??)
4. "First of all, we must thank our colleagues, Americans, European colleagues for being involved with this during a difficult time for Russia when no-one was paying any attention to this," Putin said. -how long has Putin and Russia been paying attention to this? if the US and European colleagues are to thank, who is this NO ONE?
5. Putin last year made it into glossy magazines across the world by donning combat trousers and baring his muscular torso for photographers while on a fishing trip in the Yenisei river. -again, Putin on a porn shoot, wtf? How is this relevant? He's hot and tough and can handle cats and fish? an outdoorsy type? He's Russian.
6. Sensitive to a growing environmental movement in Russia, Putin as president redrew a planned oil pipeline route to avoid Lake Baikal and scrapped plans for an Olympic village near Sochi that could have damaged local flora and fauna. -Ah, of course, Putin is an environmentalist, a green advocate, how did I forget this?!?!
