Anyway, he's at it again with this jaw-dropper from the other night. The way he steals it is just as awesome as the goal itself, which he scores by shooting it to the goalie's right, his left. (Oh, and the defenseman that he makes look silly is no pushover, he's former #1 draft pick and 3-time all-star Roman Hamrlik)

Wow. My only instinct while falling onto a hard, frozen surface is to make sure I land as softly as possible; I can't imagine thinking, "Let me just take that extra time to score a goal before landing."
ReplyDeleteAlso, I cannot believe this (from Wikipedia): "First player to win the Art Ross Trophy, Maurice Richard Trophy, Lester B. Pearson Award and Hart Memorial Trophy as well as win all four in a single season." It is not often that Gretzky was not the first to pull off something like this.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to me how you really have to know something about a sport for even the most heroic feat to mean anything to you. Never having seen a hockey game in my life, these clips sort of just look to me like...people playing hockey. I'm sure the same is true of a non-baseball fan watching a great triple play or something. Context is everything...
ReplyDeleteOkay, that's definitely fair ... but that first goal? Sliding on his side, back to the goal, one hand on his stick, impossible angle? Ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteyeah the replay/explanation by the commentators made me realize it was pretty cool...i also like it when the players themselves wind up in the goal, as in the second one...
