I've been absent lately, but I've got a few posts I'm putting together in my head. Until then, watch the most angering political ad ever.
And appreciate the irony of a certain kind of "coalition" at 0:48.

I like how they don't even bother trying to explain HOW their choice is going to be "eliminated" or whatever, opting instead for nebulous implications that poke at people's unwarranted fears about how homosexuality is going to simply destroy the fabric of society or whatever.
ReplyDeleteI mean, what's the doctor going to have to do? She's already likely treating gay patients all the time, it's just that they're not, y'know, in a semantically formalized relationship.
And the "concerned mom" thing, aside from yet again exploiting children to try to make a political argument, is absolutely ridiculous -- the world is filled with information that's beyond any individual's control, and there's absolutely no way to avoid one's child being exposed to any particular idea or perspective floating around out there. This is like saying "I personally feel people shouldn't have to pay taxes, so as long as people have to pay taxes, my poor, helpless child runs the risk of being exposed to the idea that it's okay to pay taxes, and that's unacceptable."
And what they seem to be incapable of grasping is that gay people are having sex all the time, just like everyone else, and the world is still intact and, for the most part, a-okay. Yet somehow, the idea of gay monogamy is going to be what brings down civilization. Please.
that is infuriating, of course, and the production value and possible effectiveness of this and similar ads (like the "obama would have been aborted" one you posted) is terrifying. I'd love to never stoop to this level on one hand, but on the other hand I hope that "our side" is hitting back.
