Approval Ratings

A website called PoliticsHome selected "informed Americans" to participate in a series of polls. I don't remember exactly how I got involved, but it definitely involved reading electoral websites a lot.

Anyway, most of their polls have been unremarkable, but here's an interesting one: approval ratings for many notable political figures.

  1. Somewhat related to the topic of approval ratings is the giddy feeling in my stomach each time I read articles like this one in which Obama comes across as a reasonable figure willing to debate his positions and decisions with those around him. I largely disagree with some of Obama's major decisions thus far, but at least when he makes a decision with which I disagree he tries to provide an intellectually defensible justification for his actions.

By no means has he eliminated partisanship and rhetoric (and in the case of the stimulus bill he may have even passed it only "[...] under blankets of fear and urgency," as Kit once stated), but at least he attempts to justify his ideologically extreme decisions using logic and reason. This is not intended to toss me onto the list of people who want to have sex with Obama, but rather to note a slight, but important, difference in presentation between the Bush 43 and Obama administrations. No longer must a member of the minority party be considered 'anti-American' for dissenting (except maybe when they dissent in ways like this).
